Ouch, that must have hurt...musn't it?
Hi All,
Ginger Tom has just woken up on a chair next to my pc and decided (for the first time) to walk over to say hello. All went well till he stepped on my pc keyboard, which then slipped and scared the bejazus out of him
I thought it was funny at first anyway, then noticed something stuck between two of the keys, it was one of his claws, it'd just snapped off
Proof positive that he can't retract his claws.
There's no blood thankfully, so it hadn't snapped near his toe, and he doesn't seem any the worse, at least he isn't limping, but it's got me thinking about trying to clip the remainder as he can't be 100% comfortable, tho' I reckon he'd be pretty uncomfortable if I do try and clip them.

Oh poor fella, I dont envy you the clipping of the rest of it, but if you can, then in the long run Im sure he will appreciate it!
Good luck.

I've just had a good look at the claw that came off and it seems very brittle to me. If the rest are the same it *shouldn't* be that hard to clip the rest, but whether he'd let me is another thing altogether, it'd probably sound a lot worse than it actually feels to him.*Prince* wrote:Oh poor fella, I dont envy you the clipping of the rest of it, but if you can, then in the long run Im sure he will appreciate it!Good luck.

It probably wouldn't hurt him at all, and IF you do manage he'll be able to *file* them when he walks about outside. The problem is though, will he let you?

He doesn't go out much to file his claws down, and I've yet to see him scratch anywhere, I don't know if it's painful, tho' I can't see that tbh, he'd be in pain just walking about. The claw that came off is almost blunt, it's nowhere near as razor sharp as a *normal claw* and to give some idea of how brittle it is, it's split from my just handling it.

Geez that's not right, so he'll be deficiant in some minerals/vitamins now, does that boy ever get a break, the poor thing. Still, if he appears happy enough I wouldn't be too concerned.

It sounds like he's deficient minerals/vitamins, but that can only be because he can't absorb them. I can't believe his diet is lacking, he's the *best fed* of my lot by some distance, he won't touch dry, but he eats a 50/50 diet of raw and wet and he loves cat milk which has plenty of both.
I'm not bragging when I say his diet must be 100% better with me than whatever he was getting before, and he's been here long enough for it to have made at least some difference to his general condition.

I was thinking that yesterday, he's been with you so long now that you would think his health would be spot on, but if he can't absorb minerals etc, the best a healthy diet is going to do is to keep him from getting worse. So that in it'self is good. All you can do is what you've been doing for months, keeping him well fed and safe, not much wrong there.

Oh the poor fella! How they hell do they manage to get their claws caught in things eh? lol. As Kath says, you're doing great with him and I've no doubt he's one happy cat. If you do clip his claws tho, let us know how it goes? I've been tempted to clip Boo's as she doesn't chew them or manage them properly herself so they are razor sharp and long, the only thing that stops me is how jumpy she is, I would happily do Mads' if she needed it, but Boo would be terrified.

Princeys are also longer at the mo, due to him not getting out (although he has a damn good go at the canvas wardrobe with wooden slats)

Ouch - ouch - ouch! But hopefully it's much more ouch in my head then it is on GTs paw.
He does seem to be fairly poorly in some ways, but he also seem to be a fairly happy cat, and he's getting tons of TLC with you, so he's in good hands. Just a shame it's one thing or the other with him...

Re: Ouch, that must have hurt...musn't it?
I used to be able to shave any matts off Fudge while she was asleep, but now she's wide awake the moment I go near her with the shaver. As the matts are almost always on her rear end, I tend to let them grow out a bit as they're easier to shave/cut off when they aren't close to her body. Even then she spends time walking round with matts hanging off her, before I finish the job. It's just as well she's not people friendly as anybody who picked her up would wonder what the hell they'd got hold ofTeddy wrote:nicola wrote:Awww bless the poor fella, i clip Lilly's when she is sleeping maybe you could try that?

There's not a chance of my cutting GT's claws while he's asleep, he's wide awake at the slightest touch or sound.

Well, he didn't learn. He's just jumped onto my bed, then my knee, then the pc keyboard........and got quite upset when I put him back on the bed before he skittled the keyboard again. Climbing up like this is one of Bolas fav habits when I'm online, and I love the way GT sees him doing something then tries to copy him.

God Nic! That is amazing! And I imagine incrediby useful! Mine are never in that deeper sleep... well apart from when Boo had her op and would fall into a completely deep sleep on me I remember that as used that time to pick the crap out of her fur and claws... but now I swear they both sleep with one eye open! LOL
