Bosley started with a bit of a cold last Saturday, I wasn't overly bothered as he was just a bit sniffly/sneezy but come Monday morning he was still the same as well as having a bunged up nose so off to the vets we went. In the meantime both Fudge and Bola had started showing similar symptoms, tho' it appeared Bola had soon shaken it off and Fudge was just sneezy.

I don't know how or why, but Bosley had also developed a small sore on his face next to his whiskers that by the time we got to the vets had grown and looked more like a ulcer, which baffled the vet as much as me confused He was treated with the usual Metacam and a long lasting antibiotic > Convenia (both jabs) and it seemed he was making a quick recovery, especially as the ulcer had reduced in size substantially overnight and has all but gone now and he was as active as ever.

Bola looked really under the weather as I went to bed last night and I fully expected having to take him to the vets today, but while he's still sniffly/sneezy, he came to say hello this morning before cleaning his plate at brekkie and then going out. Bosley on the other hand seems to have taken a step backwards as he's really sniffly/bunged up again and barely touched his brekkie, tho' he wolfed down some raw minced pork followed by cooked chicken. Fudge, tho' while still sneezing is looking ok, the best of the three anyway.

All have been eating as usual.

As Max has herpes I would have expected him to be the first to catch anything going round as his immune system is already compromised, but he's the only one who's still free of whatever *it* is, he hasn't coughed or sneezed once, which I just don't understand.

Just like Max, Bosley improved after the Metacam/Convenia jabs but the improvement was shortlived, he was ill enough yesterday for me to phone the vets for advice, tho' he was nowhere near as ill as Max became. We're off there again at 11am today, tho' typically, he had a good nights sleep on my bed, woke me at 4.30am munching on the dry food, then threw up on the landing before coming back and demanding I get up and give him some proper brekkie with a serious bout of pushy paws on my chest.

He dashed downstairs, used one of the litter trays in the hall, ate his brekkie before finishing Bolas. Both he and Bola are a bit snuffly/snotty again today, but nowhere near as bad as they have been and Bola is as active as ever even if Bosley isn't quite at that stage yet, but he's not far away.........if he thinks all this is going to get him out of the vets appt he's going to be disappointed Very Happy

He'd improved so much I considered cancelling the vet appt but decided against if only for my peace of mind. He's pretty much back to full health again with only a bit of sniffling and that's fading fast Very Happy His temperature was 102.2F so there's no fever and while he behaved like a total gent he can be loud when he puts his mind to it, so when the vet inserted the thermometer Bosley let everyone in the vets know just how unhappy he was Poorly cats and it hasn't ended yet......... 43453

The downside is I found out he has a heart murmur, nothing major or anything to worry about, but it's as well to know these things, just in case.

I forgot to say it appears Jimmy and Dexter are also affected. I didn't see Dexter for over 36 hours and assumed Debbie had seen he was off colour and had just kept him in, anyhow he marched into the house and it wasn't long before he had a sneezing fit. I don't know how many times he'd sneezed (probably about 10) before I started counting but I got to 21 Shocked it's a wonder his nose didn't explode Laughing

Dexter had spent a long time asleep on my bed yesterday but had gone when I went to bed, tho' I couldn't sleep for a *gurgling sound* from somewhere. As Bola and Bosley were on my bed I thought it must be one of them but no, they were both fast asleep when I switched the light on. I leaned over and looked under the bed and there was the culprit, poor Dexter sniffling and sneezing. He's still around this morning and seems much better so hopefully he's starting to shake it off.

As my lot are infected I'd been setting the flap to exit only hoping to reduce the risk of other cats coming in and catching this bug/virus/whatever, only opening the flap fully at night, so Dexter must have sneaked in when I was outside and left the door ajar. No food for my lot has been left out after they'd finished eating for other cats to steal, I've even made a point of not letting mine share bowls/plates, they've had their own and not been allowed to eat from the others. Pretty pointless tbh as they all have the same thing.

Bola and Bosley are now pretty much clear, but Max has started sneezing again and poor Fudge, who looked liked she'd escaped the worst by only having a dose of the sneezes, has now developed a chesty cough, tho' it's more a bark than cough. Either way, unless there's a major improvement in her overnight we will be off to the vets tomorrow.

I bought a Karvol Vapor Rub plug-in, in the hope it would at least help keep her nose clear as she's back to staying in one room again, my bedroom. I'm pretty sure it has helped, but not as much as I'd hoped and the online advice to use a saline nasal spray didn't go down at all well, so that won't be repeated. At her age I'll have to be careful, especially because she's not eating as much as usual as leaning forward to eat seems to trigger the coughing.

Fudge is booked in to see the vet at 11.20 this morning Very Happy

As she's not had a *real* days illness in her life before this starting and hasn't seen a vet since being spayed, I'm hoping this visit doesn't stress her out enough to provoke one of her disappearing acts when we get home.

In all the years I've had/been around cats I've never seen anything like this lot before, it's as tho' as fast as one gets better another one becomes ill. A nightmare.

It was a good day all round for Fudge, she'd improved so much by 9am I was tempted to cancel her vet appt, especially as she was scratching at the locked flap then crying at the front door at 10 wanting to go out, but we went all the same. The taxi turned up early so we arrived at the vets in plenty of time and I'd barely had time to check in and sit down before we were seen, then it got better when my taxi was able to pick us up earlier than booked, we'd been seen and were home before her original appt time Very Happy Poorly cats and it hasn't ended yet......... 579159

If one eye hadn't been streaming and I'd gotten around to cleaning the gunk off a nostril it's likely the vet wouldn't have seen anything wrong with her, but a Convenia long lasting antibiotic jab was given to help her recover, even tho' she was over the worst herself. She's still a bit snotty and sneezy, but is nearly back to her best now.

Not so good for Bosley as I'd noticed he was favouring a hind leg and it was confirmed later. He has the habit of sleeping on top of a pile of books on the junk room windowsill and somehow managed to fall off, bringing himself and them tumbling to the floor, so it's possible he hurt his leg then.

That said, I've suspected for a while he may have potential hip problems as he swings them far more when walking than any cat I've ever seen and his hind legs look out of proportion (too long) to the rest of him. He seems ok now and has jumped up and down from that windowsill a few times since, so his leg can't be bothering him too much.

The outbreak of *whatever* seems to be all but over now with only the odd sneeze between them, and Bosleys leg appears to be ok Very Happy Poorly cats and it hasn't ended yet......... 579159

I can't say the same for one of the black strays who have been regular visitors as one is currently at my vets as he may well have a broken leg and is facing a uncertain future, not least over payment for any treatment he might need. I can't see the leg being broke myself and I'm hoping his leg problem is only a abscess after a bite from one of the many fights he gets himself into. It's the same cat I suspect is responsible for infecting Max with herpes after they'd fought.

The money situation is being helped by donations, primarily from the woman who took him to the vets and myself, and CP are also chipping in as are the RSPCA, the latter paying the miserable amount of £50, and this is after seemingly offering to pay for treatment but retracting that offer after finding out he wasn't the woman's pet. What a generous gesture from a animal welfare organisation with £millions in the bank Rolling Eyes
