RIP Tatty Eared Tom
Not many members about to read this nowadays and probably not many of those are aware of Tatty................
He was a black stray who used to visit me quite regularly but had been taken to the vets with a bad leg/paw by a neighbour who'd also been looking out for him with food, etc. The plan, if his leg/paw was treatable, was to let him back into his old routine here but it turned out he had FIV so that was a big no-no as he'd be just too big a danger to other local cats should they meet and fight. He was constantly bullied so it wouldn't surprise me to find out it's already too late for some of them.
He's now been pts, so RIP Tatty.

Re: RIP Tatty Eared Tom
Along with the neighbour who took him, I'd offered £100 towards any treatment he might need, which boosted the money they'd got from the RSPCA. As far as I could make out yesterday my neighbour didn't contribute, presumably because he ended up being pts, and the vets were short of just under £46 for everything they'd done. As they'd gone out of their way to help him, inc reduced fees, I paid the balance owed as I'd already offered £100.
I'll miss his calling for a late night chicken wing for some time yet.

Re: RIP Tatty Eared Tom
I bumped into the neighbour who'd taken him to the vets on my way out shopping yesterday, it turned out he had a fractured bone in the poorly paw and a infected toe on the other. Had he been a housecat both, along with his FIV, would have been manageable by keeping him inside, but it would have been cruel to him and unfair on other cats to treat then release him again, hence the decision to have him pts. The vets must have waived the cost of x-raying his leg, not a small amount, plus other costs, which was very good of them and I won't deny a real surprise to me as I'd always had them down as money-centric where treatment was concerned.

Re: RIP Tatty Eared Tom
Thanks Lynn, it's a shame but was for the best. The question is now how many other cats are infected with FIV after fighting with him, more than a few I'd say.

Re: RIP Tatty Eared Tom
Thanks Nicola, under better circumstances he would have made a good pet for someone, tho' they'd have needed to be hard of hearing or deaf as he was incredibly vocal.
