Locked out Empty Locked out

Post by Ian B Thu Mar 11, 2010 10:10 am

That's Dexter for the time being, he'd been here for the best part of 48 hours and that's way too long without him going home. As much as he's my fav cat out of all of them, he's going to have to go home sometime today. He's very playful but not destructive, doesn't beg for food everytime I go into the kitchen, he's not a fighter and likes nothing better than lying on my lap/anywhere there's room while purring his head off. A fabulous cat Very Happy Locked out 579159

Hmmmm, yes he's "become one" with you and your home Laughing It is right that you encourage him to go home at some point, little tinker that he is.

He doesn't eat here, beyond a few biscuits, so as much as it looks like he doesn't go home, he must do at some point. All he wants is somewhere to curl up and sleep when he can't get in next door. He's just the same as Jimmy, whenever they've been at home overnight, the first thing they do when let out is visit me, Debbie knows and doesn't mind, and I don't, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

They've got a dog who is at home all day, so there's no reason why they can't fit a flap, they might have the odd cat try it but they'll soon stop once they know there's a dog on the other side.

Locked out Empty Re: Locked out

Post by Ian B Thu Mar 11, 2010 1:36 pm

He was sat on my doorstep peeping thro' the locked flap when I got back from shopping.............I feel guilty stopping him coming in as he's been doing it for so long now, but needs must. It's not so bad if the weather stays fine and warm as he's happy enough outside during the day, but come late afternoon/evening, if he hasn't gone home he'll be wanting to come in.

I might even stop playing with him in my garden, tho' I enjoy that almost as much as he does tbh, but if it persuades him to go home it'll be worth it.

He finally took the hint and went home (I think/hope) tho' I had to keep putting him outside, even popping him over the fence a few times, before the penny dropped.

I said dropping him at first, but that sounded a bit cruel so edited my post Laughing

He's back here now, either they were up early today next door to let him out or he found somewhere to sleep last night, tho' if it was the former Jimmy would be here as well.

He's such a good natured cat I swear you could take a tooth out without anaesthetic and he'd purr while it was being done Laughing

Good natured cat he may be, but I'm convinced he's the guilty party who's been spraying in the hall and kitchen Twisted Evil None of the others, not even Max who hasn't been here long, have ever done it to my knowledge, so it has to be Dexter, and that more than anything means his visits here will have to be very restricted at best.

I've just carried him (purring like a madcat) outside and *chased* him home. He didn't go far before stopping and turning to look at me with a "what have I done wrong"? expression on his face. I felt/feel rotten about doing it, but this time I'll have to nip things in the bud before they go too far.

Yeah, and he's got the sort of face that can do that look really well Laughing

It worked as he didn't come back.....................but I think Max and Buddy must have joined him out of sympathy as I've not seen Max since since 9pm yesterday and Buddy since midnight. It looks like it was bitterly cold outside overnight, so perhaps Max went back home, tho' where Buddy went/is I've no idea as neither cat are here this morning.

One disappearing is bad enough, but two is worrying, especially Buddy as my seeing him at midnight was the first time since 5pm when he had a major fight with a stranger at the side of my house, and the pair of them hared off when I went out to seperate them.

Still no sign of Dexter Locked out 579159 or Max Crying or Very sad tho' Buddy's back Locked out 579159 ...............along with the black cat from across the road. I'd not seen him for 48 hours and by the sound of him begging for food he hadn't been fed for that long.

'EDIT'

I've just seen Dexter and Max, and as it was at the same time it's safe to assume they've both been back home and just let out.

Dexter has just surfaced, but is sitting nervously in the kitchen instead of the usual hunt-the-food chase round the house. I wonder if he's got the message that he can come in but he doesn't *live* here?

Daft as it sounds, you could be right as he's by some distance the most intelligent cat I've met in years.
