The Moo's head
About a week ago she came in with a canny wee chunk of skin missing, it's too shallow for stitches, more like shes been skinned and theres a couple of patches between her eye and ear. We've been putting cream on it and keeping an eye and it hasn't got infected but it still won't scab over and is an open wound still. How long do we leave it before a visit to the vets, but then what will the vets do? I guess we could put a collar on her to stop her scratching in but she doesn't appear to be having a go at it, the main worry is it could be a source of infection.

Re: The Moo's head
If it's got no worse and there's no obvious signs of infection, I'd be inclined to leave it a bit longer before going to the vet. They must all come in with cuts and scratches that we never see that heal by themselves.

Re: The Moo's head
Aww, poor Moo. I agree with Ian, unless there's any obvious signs of infection, I would just keep an eye on it and keep it clean. Wonder what the silly girl has been up to?

Re: The Moo's head
Agreed here too, it probably won't scab over if you're still putting cream on it as the cream will keep it moist. Once the air gets to it, it should dry out.

I'll stop with the cream then and leave it a wee while longer. My poor big girl.

Re: The Moo's head
I don't have advice, just wanted to say , sorry for the poor kitty, and hope all is well soon.
Re: The Moo's head
Thank you. She still keeps knocking the scab off so it won't heal so our Mads may be in for the collar treatment! We kept her in last night much to her dismay, she was shouting her head off, but the wound was open so we decided it was best to keep her in. Not a happy Moo...

Aaargh! Its so annoying when they wont leave their wounds alone. Poor Moo, if only she would listen to her mammy, she wouldnt have to have the stupid collar treatment! :roll

Re: The Moo's head
Well, she hopped up onto me this morning for a good knead and that was her first mistake. I noticed that she's not only knocked the scab off but has tore more skin and fur off and it looks terrible, all bloody and raw so I have put the collar on her, cleaned the matted bloody fur and plonked on a load of cream, she now stinks of anti-septic cream and is not impressed with the collar one bit, but at least she's not doing the backwards walking thing. I've closed the living room door to keep her downstairs as upstairs is a battle ground at the moment as we are trying to sort out a nursery. I've took the lid off the hooded tray too. Poor Mads.
They are both going to the vets tomorrow for their booster jabs so I'll get them to have a look when we're there.

Re: The Moo's head
Poor Maddymoo but it is for the best. Malo always does the backwards walking thing, but our Bonnie goosesteps when she has the collar on - it looks so funny and has us in stitches, even though it is always at a time when Bonnie is particularly vulnerable. How cats hate being laughed at. Am sure the vet will get it sorted tomorrow.

Re: The Moo's head
Aww poor Mads! Hopefully with the collar on the wound will scab up and heal, but best to get the vet to have a look tomorrow. Give her a big hug and a purr from us and Isis! xxx
Re: The Moo's head
Well, vet couldn't do her booster jab today as it looks like its been a bite that has gotten infected so she is on 5 days of solid collar wearing and a weeks antibiotics and gets to go back to the vets next week for them to check it out and give her her booster then. She was very good at the vets, unlike Boo whom managed to evade us by jumping off the table and running for cover and cowering under a chair, hmmph. lol.

Re: The Moo's head
Poor Maddy - and it must be so frustrating to her not to be able to talk and let you know who the culprit was, or that she had been bitten in the first place. Another week and she will be as right as rain though.

Re: The Moo's head
We suspect who the culprit was as there is a new fluffy cat in the area and Mads loaves fluffy cats for some reason lol.
She is definately not a happy Moo, her ear is twitching conctantly and she's scratching away through the collar, so the itchiness must be driving her nuts and it does look a bit icky. Hopefully the anti-biotics and collar treatment will do her some good and it'll heal up nicely. Shame they didn't give her an anti-biotic injection instead of the tablets as she's a pain when it comes to getting her to swallow them. She's getting spoiled rotten with milk treat and we've given her some metacam as that side of her face feels hotter than the other. I forgot to mention, she is now 4.45kg! Her diet is coming along nicely!

Re: The Moo's head
Careful with the treats and spoiling her, she'll soon get used to them and might think the collar is worth wearing if it means more

Re: The Moo's head
She's still being a madam! Lol!
Vets today went well, she didn't maul the vet and she's had her booster now. Finished her anti-biotics and the wound is nearly closed, a few more days of collar wearing should do it then she'll be free to terrorise the neighbourhood again. lol
