Itchy cat
Isis has been scratching a lot recently. I've wormed and flead her and she doesn't go out, but I'm quite concerned coz when I was stroking her tonight, she felt a bit thinner than usual and I could feel some scabby bits where she had scratched. She's very well in herself, eating and drinking well, teasing Isla/letting Isla chase her etc, sleeping etc. Should I call the vets? Or should I do the worm/flea treatment again? I did the treatment in Oct.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Itchy cat
Hi Ali,
By coincidence Fudge is pretty much the same regarding weight and scabby bits, but these are right near the base of her tail where it'd be near impossible to scratch. Like Isis, she's eating and drinking ok but seems fine otherwise and is up to date with flea treatment (tho' at this time of year is this needed?)

Re: Itchy cat
By coincidence so is Mads, so we have gave her another flea treatment (oral this time) despite defleaing and worming not so long ago and have fea treated the house as we do regularly and that seems to have done the trick for now.

Re: Itchy cat
It is advisable to examine the manifestations of scabies in cats before examining the causes of non-induced pruritus fleas that cats have an amazing variety of skin changes associated with some itching. Furthermore, in some cases can be very difficult to differentiate skin disease caused by feline skin disease induced by other causes itching.

Having noticed today that Jimmy is even scabbier than Fudge, I don't feel so bad about her now. His back is awful compared to hers.Ian B wrote:Hi Ali,

Aww poor Jimmy, how uncomfortable is he? sometimes they can be scabby and it doesn't bother them. The scabby bits on Sophie are still all over her belly but she doesn't give any indication they bother her.

Re: Itchy cat
Much like Fudge, it doesn't seem to bother him Kath. With both of them it's mainly right on the spine near their tails so hard to get at, even if it did itch/annoy them and I've never seen either try.

Re: Itchy cat
If it was itchy, they would definately be scratching or licking at the area, Sophie went ballistic when she was itchy.
