Sores on head
Hmmm Mads has a couple of open sores on either side of her head, just near and to the front of her ears where the fur thins out a bit. I'm cleaning them every day with salt water and smearing a bit of vaseline over them and keeping her in. I'm just not sure whats caused them, they look almost like cat fight wounds but with where they are it would have taken a larger dog biting her head to match the wound pattern and they just aren't deep enough for that. I've found scabs on the vertical blinds so I don't know if she just keeps pulling the scabs off on the blinds when walking through them or if the blinds have caused this in the first place? Thy don't look or smell infected, just rather raw and there's no sign of absesses. Any ideas?

Re: Sores on head
Could be mites, is she scratching them a lot? other than that I haven't a clue. If it is mites she'll need treatment from the vet, anti inflammatories to stop the little beggers from itching her.

Re: Sores on head
Jimmy from next door is covered in sores/scabs, Debbie told me her vet said they're due to a him having a bad reaction to flea bites. He's been treated for this but it doesn't seem to be helping much, tho' it doesn't seem to bother him either.

Re: Sores on head
They seem to be getting better. We had a good look in her ears and there's no sign of mite activity (whatever that looks like.... can you see them or their dirt that they leave behind?). I think I'm going to just keep a watchful eye a while longer.

Re: Sores on head
Quite difficult to see as they could be far down the ear channel, but I think it's their dirt you see, lots of dark/black gunge.

Re: Sores on head
Well as Kath already knows, Maddys' head has had a change for the worse since yesterday and it is very sore looking, half her head was plastered with blood and serous fluid and its starting to smell so she's getting a vets visit tomorrow with Bramble, prob needs antibiotic$. She was scratching like mad at her head so I now have 2 cats walking around with buster collars on! They both look thoroughly miserable!

Poor toots, it's really not funny but I have to smile when I imagine the pair of them, walking around.
