Claws Empty Claws

Post by Ali Tue Oct 07, 2008 6:07 pm

Do your cats chew their claws when washing? I've noticed this a few times with Isis. I read somewhere that cats chew their claws when they are stressed, but Isis isn't stressed - well not as far as I can see.
I'm sure it's just part of her cleaning routine....

Yes Princey chews his claws, but its not to do with stress, its like you say, part of their cleaning routine - getting rid of the outer/old claw husk thingy.

Percy does that too, as does my mum's four cats. Two of whom really pull at their nails, it's quite horrible to watch!

I'm sure pretty much all cats do it so don't worry, Ali x

All my cats/kittens have done this, it's definately not stress, just what Nicki said, part of their cleaning routine.

Mads love to have a good old knaw at her claws and toes! Boo however, doesn't *sighs* and doesn't use the scratching post really, so has needle like claws! I keep an eye on them tho, as suspect will end up having to cut them at some point...

Thank you girls! I managed to clip her claws the other day while she was asleep on the sofa! Mean trick, but she wasn't bothered.

Pokie is a claw chewer too... he's really dig his teeth in between then too...

BG on the other hand is a dainty cleaner, who'll just run her tongue along.
