Moto's nose Empty Moto's nose

Post by Teddy Sun Jun 13, 2010 7:17 pm

I'm a bit concerned now but Moto has had a black mark on his nose for weeks now and I thought he wa just a grubby boy as he's alsways near the coal bunker, but this mark has never gone away and today I've noticed a tiny one on the other side of his nose. Steve held him while I tried to clean it off, but it wouldn't budge so tomorrow night we'll taje hime to the vets and get it checked out. I would hate to think he has skin cancer (I know really being a drama queen) and we didn't do anything about it. I moan and complain abiout him being such a wuss but I wouldn't want him to be ill. No

Hi Kath,

I've had the same dilemma with Fudges nose for months now, a sore that shows no sign of healing, but she seems fine otherwise. I should have taken her to the vets, but after so long it surely can't be anything serious? She's also got a few sores on her back, right above the spine and only near the tail. I don't know if the two things are connected.

I have fingers crossed for Moto and for Fudge. White cat's are prone to skin cancer but as far as I know it is usually on their ears. We have to keep a close eye on Bonnie's ears as she doesn't have much protective fur on them. Methinks things will be alright but for sure it is better to be safe than sorry.

Bonnie and Malo cross their paws too.

I'll say one thing, if it turns out Motos nose is just grind in soot I will be black affronted. LOL I know white cats are prone to skin cancer but I didn't think ginger ones where, he's a dark ginger too, not too much white on him.
Fudge may just have very dry skin Ian, at her age it's not unheard of, and dry skin can get itchy so maybe the sores are scabs where she's been scratching.

I had seen that Moto was a lovely dark ginger, but was just commenting that it is the white cats that are the ones that are prone to skin cancer. Am hoping all goes well at the vets and that it is something just simple. I know our Joseph had some changes in colouring - down to age - but that was when he was very old. Maybe tis soot after all. Bonnie at the moment has pink fur on her nose instead of white - but that is the tomato sauce from her pilchards - such a messy eater.

Hope Moto's trip to the vet goes ok Kath. As you know, Oor Princey McChunks has one white ear, which we have to try to remember to sun-cream. It is a worry.

Took him to the vets tonight and the vet scratched off those bits which left scarring, so for the time being we have to keep a close eye on them and if they return, take him back and he'll get antibiotics, if they don't work, then it's steroids and then a biopsy, but right now, he's fine. Girned all the way there, all the way back and was meek and mild at the vets. Laughing

Yep, typical cat. I remember warning the vets to expect a very upset moggie with both Black Tom and Beckett, yet both were 100% cuddlecats out of the carrier Embarassed Laughing

Here's hoping Motos nose stays sore free Kath Very Happy

Thank you, well it's just a waiting game but it sure isn't affecting his appetite, sheesh, he's obsessed. Laughing His nose looks sore today though then again if you had a pair of huge hands scabbing abd opicking your nose would be sore too. Moto's nose 43453

Thank you Joanne, I think they're coming back !!!! aaaahhhhhh. I'm going to leave it a couple more days and then decide if he needs another visit. It's so weird as, atm they look just like dirty marks, but if they get worse, I'll need to take him back to the vet.

Hi Kath. How is Moto's nose now? I know you said it appeared to be coming back. I hope that was a false alarm and that he is back to normal. I wondered whether it might be an allergic reaction to something that he has sniffed at.

Hi Joanne

Thanks for asking, well it's no worse than the last time I spoke about it, but it is there, I'm not sure what to do. He's healthy, he's eating, now if he didn't eat I would know something was wrong, he's playing, he's terroeising Sophie, all in all he's just Moto. So do I start him on meds that he may not need? do I leave him another month or two and see what happens with the marks? instinctively I would leave him, but if it turns out to be something bad, I would feel terrible. Oh the dilemmas.

Hi Kath,

If it's any help, Fudges nose has started to clear up. It's still a bit *scabby* but nothing like it was, and like Moto, she seems fine otherwise.
