One mystery solved, but another one starts
I wandered down to Donnas house to ask about the kitten who's been hanging round and coming in my house, as I knew she had kittens not so long ago. I explained what had happened and them showed her the pics I'd taken of it coming in thro my flap, then a short while later in my house, but it's not hers
She told me she thought she'd seen this kitten knocking about, but the only cat there atm was Pablo, who was at home when I called. There were 2 dogs inside, both with total freedom to go wherever they wanted, and there was Pablo, happy as Larry amongst them and not making a sound
He spotted me and strolled over for a chin rub but never uttered a *word*, he just purred his head off. I had to tell Donna that I'd record him again the next time he called here, just so I could let her know what he's like when other cats are around. To be fair, she did say her friend hadn't been 100% honest about his history, temperament with other cats and being a outdoor cat, but until she hears him here she'll have absolutely no idea how loud he can be
Back to the mystery kitten, Donna said she thought it might belong to a house directly across the road from her, which makes sense as it's certainly not lost. I'd like to try the paper collar thing again, but that'd mean my getting it to trust me enough to handle, and I can't see that happening anytime soon.

Re: One mystery solved, but another one starts
This cat is in my garden atm, so it looks like the poor thing has been left out all night again That said, it looks well cared for, beyond always being hungry here, but it's not right leaving a cat so young out so much imo.
Here it is playing with Bola yesterday afternoon
I know I shouldn't as this will only encourage it to keep coming back, but I won't see any cat go hungry so I've just put all the brekkie my ungateful lot have left into a bowl and put it outside. The kitten is tucking in like it's not seen food for a month

Such a sweet looking thing, and it certainly does look too young to be left out like that, especially hungry (although you never know whether they are actually hungry or just plain greedy).

He/she is a lovely little cat who's slowly coming round. Half of me is pleased to see it's wary of strangers, but the other half wishes I was able to get a paper collar on with a message asking it's owners to contact me as it's spending so much time in my garden.

Soft headed more like
I've found out it'd kill for a chicken wing. I got the last batch out of the freezer first thing today for my lot, but beyond giving them a bit of a chew they were ignored, so I threw one of for this kitten. The best food ever in it's eyes and small or not, woe betide any cat that tries to take it off it

He/she is back again, playing *boxing* with Max thro' the flap with Max on the inside. I'm going to have to get this on video as it's damn but the kitten runs when it spots me going into the kitchen.

Taken a couple on minutes ago sat with Stripey Tail in my garden. He seems fascinated, tho' never goes much, if any, closer than this. I can't help wondering if they're from the same house and the kitten has just followed him here? Doubtful, but you never know.

Re: One mystery solved, but another one starts
This is getting even stranger
I didn't see or hear this cat trying the flap from just after lunchtime yesterday, but there it was at 6.30am today trying to get in. I suppose it's possible it goes home and is let out very early, tho' as it's usually in my garden when I open the door that'd mean it's owners getting up even earlier than me on a Sunday and I can't see many people doing that

Seems like he/she is allowed total freedom, couldd be a catflap open 24/7 and it just comes and goes as it pleases. As for being hungry as Joanne says, it could just be greedy, it's owners maybe wondering why it doesn't eat much at home?
It sure is bonny.

I hadn't thought of a flap being open 24/7 at home, but the way it can't seem to work out how to use mine suggests not. By the looks of it, unlike my heavyweights, it's going to be very much like Jimmy in being very slim by nature no matter how much they eat.

Re: One mystery solved, but another one starts
For the first time in the best part of a week there was no sign of this kitten today, hopefully that just means it's at home.
The more I think about it the more I'm convinced it's one of two kittens I posted about seeing a few weeks ago. Both had collars with massive clear plastic ID barrels on, massive in relation to the cats size anyway, so I'm 100% sure their home is only a few doors away from me and this cat has just lost it's collar rather than being lost itself.

Re: One mystery solved, but another one starts
I hope it's been home today as the weather has been awful, chilly and raining non stop more or less all day I get the feeling it hasn't as Buddy disappeared for a few hours just after lunch but eventually came home after I'd been shouting him again, and just behind him was this kitten. Buddy was almost bone dry so I'm assuming they've found somewhere dry to shelter nearby.

This can't just be coincidence as it's happened before, but within seconds of stripey tail turning up, so did this kitten. If they're not from the same *home* they've found somewhere warm and dry to stay overnight that's pretty close to my house.

Re: One mystery solved, but another one starts
The poor thing has been hanging about for the past hour or so in the rain, but this time wasn't really interested in food, it was my flap. It looks like he/she is desperate to come in but isn't brave enough, but one things for certain, I'm going to have to ask about if anyone nearby has *lost* a cat.

Re: One mystery solved, but another one starts
No sign of him/her so far today, nor stripey come to that and the weather is foul again so if they're together they'll have found somewhere warm and dry.
As it's not that often I see this kitten after around 5pm, it's crossed my mind that it's owners might put it outside when they go to work in the morning (hence appearing in my garden) then let it back in when they get back home. But if I'm right about it being one of the two kittens I saw with the massive ID barrels, where's the other one?
'EDIT 8.50am'
Scrap the idea of them being together, the kitten has just turned up but no Stripey Tail.

Re: One mystery solved, but another one starts
I've found out where he/she has been sheltering, today anyway, in a wooden shed in my loony neighbours garden. It's crammed with junk and the door is falling to pieces so it's no offering much protection from the wind, but he/she must have found a comfy spot.
That said, barring just now, every time I've opened my back door it's come running, and once or twice looked like it wanted to come in but backed away and went back to the shed. It's certainly getting no food there and none besides that I give it if it's not going home during the day, and that's not enough for it to keep healthy on. If it does have a home the owners should be ashamed of themselves for neglecting it like this

Re: One mystery solved, but another one starts
I've just been out calling for this cat, but as expected at this time of day there was no sign so I'm assuming it's gone *home* I'm sorry, but leaving a cat so young to fend for itself outside for the best part of 12 hours a day, in all weathers at that, just isn't right imo.

That is so wrong, it wouldn't be lost would it? It's young so may have wandered too far from home to find it's way back. Such a pity it won't let you come closer ian so that you could on a paper coller.

Re: One mystery solved, but another one starts
No sign so far today Kath so I assuming it's at *home*
I had a good look at the shed it's been sheltering in earlier, besides the door falling apart it looks like there's little to no back on it so the wind would really howl thro'.
It's getting braver with me, tho' at the rate things are going it'll be a month before I could even try and get a paper collar on.
