Max and carpets Empty Max and carpets

After well over 9 months of him not scratching the hall/stair/landing carpet I thought I'd cured him with a anti scratch citrus spray, but the little Max and carpets 265331 has just started doing it again Twisted Evil It's not just the one fave spot either this time so the spray won't help, unless I do all the carpet Rolling Eyes

He must like the feel of it. We had a problem with ours scratching/clawing the edges of the sofas, so bad that when we got our new sofa we didn't let them in to the livingroom unless we were there too. They don't do it now but I still wouldn't trust them.
We covered a large stick with thick rope and nailed that to the kitchen wall and both use Max and carpets 579159

But why start again after all this time? confused

I'm going to dread leaving him in the house while I'm out now.

Oh why doesn't come into it, a cat's a cat, they please themselves what and when they do something and leave us stumped. Maybe close the door to your stairs and just give limited access to your house when you're out.

That would mean either shutting him in one room, living, dining or kitchen and after Bola trying to dig under the dining room door Shocked when I accidentally shut him in, I don't want Max to do the same.

Mary always does it to mine, even though there are 2 scratch posts next to the stairs. Rolling Eyes
