Salty gammon treat
Hi All,
I bought some cheap gammon steaks a couple of weeks ago, cooked one and froze the rest. As much as I like salty food, the one I cooked was too much even for me. I got the rest out this morning, thawed then soaked them in water to try and get rid of the excess salt, then as I had the oven on, I put them in for the cats.
Bola is presently chucking his share round the garden
Dexter chewed on a piece of his then spent the next 30 seconds with his face in the water bowl
William ate his but had a coughing fit straight after (no doubt salt induced)
Fudge is looking at hers as though I've tried to poison her
Ginger Tom wolfed his in seconds and is now prowling round the house looking for the bits the others have left (note to self.........keep your hand away from Ginger Toms mouth and claws when giving him a treat, he nearly had my fingers as well )

Re: Salty gammon treat
Hi Kath,
Soaking them got rid of most of the salt, but it also removed most of the taste as well, so maybe the gammon just *looked good* What I should have done was give it to them raw, it was perhaps too dry after being in the oven. That said, I put what was left on the spare bed for Ginger Tom before I went out last night, and it'd gone when I got home so at least he enjoyed it.

He obviously refuses nothing. Love unfussy cats, such a doddle to feed.

Oh he does, after being grateful for whatever I put down for him, he's now started turning his nose up at certain food/flavours.Teddy wrote:He obviously refuses nothing. Love unfussy cats, such a doddle to feed.

Re: Salty gammon treat
He's just finished a plate of Whiskas Tuna Supermeat, but didn't touch what Bola had left. I can't believe he's full, it takes more than one plate normally, so he's probably not that keen on it.
