Fudge, more progress
There's nothing I can put my finger on, tho' she's been very lethargic for a few days now and isn't eating as much as normal, but she was never a glutton to start with. She's not struggling to breath but her flanks are heaving ever so slightly when she does, and daft as it sounds, I'm more worried about her not *answering* me when I miaow at her something she's always done. She's just sat near me, staring into space atm
I guess at being at least 14yo, more likely 15+yo tbh, her days are numbered now, but I really hope not. She's not been to the vet since being spayed when she lived next door, but I don't think it'll be long before I need to take her again.

Re: Fudge, more progress
Could it not be the weather Ian? It is very muggy here at the moment - is it the same with you? Prince is very lethargic also.
But, like you say, she is an old girl, and has less energy than the "young-uns"! Just keep your eye on her, as I know you will.

Re: Fudge, more progress
Hi* Prince*,
Yeah, it could be the weather as the rest aren't exactly running around. I've just given her some cooked chicken and she made short work of that, so there's nothing wrong with her appetite if tempted with the right food
I'll be keeping a very close eye on her, just to be on the safe side, tho' to look at her right now, smacking her lips after the chicken, and grooming herself (why do they always do this right after eating?) she's fine.

Re: Fudge, more progress
Here's hoping she is just lethargic because of the weather, I always think things aren't too bad if they still eat. She may also just be tired due to her age, am sure you'll be the first at the vets if you feel she needs to go.

Re: Fudge, more progress
She perked up greatly as it got cooler last night and went out at 1am and even said Hello when I nipped upstairs at midnight to check if she was still on my bedroom windowsill
I'm still not happy with he breathing tho', it's rapid and I can see her flanks move as she does, not something you normally see in a cat unless it's out of breath. Her chest isn't rattly and she's a long, long way from gasping for air, but something isn't quite right.
'EDIT'
She's just eaten a full plate of food then asked to be let out, so can't be feeling that bad.

Re: Fudge, more progress
She's now sat outside under my fir tree, trying and failing to keep dry as it's really persisting it down atm. It's no wonder she feels a bit off if she will insist on getting wet like this.

Re: Fudge, more progress
It is worrying when we know that one of our fur babies is not quite right - and especially galling when they persist on doing something which cannot be helping. Hope fudge is just a little weary and nothing worse than that. I know you will keep a careful eye on her.

Re: Fudge, more progress
Awwww poor Fudge, I too would put it down to the weather that combined with her age.
It's so worrying when we don't know what's wrong this them.

Re: Fudge, more progress
She's fine, even joined in with Bola and Max earlier as I played with them with a length of plastic strimmer wire. She doesn't chase after it like those two, but if it comes close enough she'll try and pounce on the end. It looks like I was worrying over nothing, but she is getting on a bit now and one day I'll need to be worried.
I can't help wishing she'd met Buddy a few years ago, for some reason she's really taken to him. I've not seen her so friendly towards another cat since Black Tom, it's just a shame Buddy doesn't really return her friendly gestures.

Thanks All
She went out at midnight and stayed out. I found her in the usual spot on next doors shed roof when I checked a few minutes ago and she said hello, a sure sign she's back to normal.

Great to hear that Fudge is back to her normal self. Cats have this wonderful tendency to bounce back after periods of being out of sorts.

@Kath,
It wasn't just one day, that's why I was so concerned about her, she'd been very lethargic for a few days.

Re: Fudge, more progress
I doubt even taking her to the vet would have made any difference though, she is a good age so maybe this could happen every now and again. I think as long as she perks up after a few days, there's not much to do, unless there's an underlying cause and you're not going to know that unless she goes through tests, and dig deep enough they'll find something. Best just to let her do her own thing, plenty of TLC will help.

Re: Fudge, more progress
True enough Kath, I know they'd find things wrong with her teeth and gums, she's lost a fang and her gums are discoloured. They've always had very dark patches on them, but as long as she can crunch her preferred dry food I'm not overly concerned if she isn't.
Half of me wishes I knew her real age, the other half doesn't as she's almost certainly older than I've said here. She been with me since before my mum was in hospital for 12 months, then my parents dying and that was nearly 13 years ago now. That's at least 14yo, and I can't remember how long she was next door with Black Tom before he adopted me then she followed. They had from a kitten but she was fully grown when moving in here so she could easily be pushing 16yo now.

Re: Fudge, more progress
That's a good age, regarding her teeth, as you say if she's able to crunch biscuits/dry food, there's not much to worry about, I would be more worried to put her under a general anesthetic tbh. Leave well alone I would say. haha she can hold her own against all those males showing she's a game old bird.

Re: Fudge, more progress
Yeah, probably best to leave her be, tho' if I was going to dash to the vets over nothing it'd be with her because of her age. She hasn't chased Jimmy for a few days, she's had chances but preferred to just look daggers at him from a distanceTeddy wrote:That's a good age, regarding her teeth, as you say if she's able to crunch biscuits/dry food, there's not much to worry about, I would be more worried to put her under a general anesthetic tbh. Shame on you Nicki, am nearly a pensioner. (not, definately not )
Could be that she just can't be bothered with the carry on with jimmy anymore, maybe she's just plain bored with him.

Normal service has been resumed. I was woken at 5am when she launched herself after him and landed on my bed while he hid under it trying his best to give her stay away warning growlsTeddy wrote:

For once I was glad to see this happen and just as grateful to see her today as she vanished into thin air late last night. It's rare that she goes far, beyond going to next doors garden but one minute she was under my fir tree at 12.30am, the next she'd gone and no amount of calling her worked.
