Malo has a vets appointment Empty Malo has a vets appointment

Malo is booked in to see the vets next Wednesday as he keeps yanking out huge amounts of fur. He chomps away at himself and emerges with a mouth full of his own fur and great big clumps at that. Malo has very thick fur - so much so that we can't get down to see his skin (impossible to put frontline directly onto his skin for this reason). Anyway, the appointment has been made and we shall see what the vet has to say about it. Vet knows Malo well and will be prepared with gloves no doubt.

Sorry to hear this Joanne, hopefully the vets will find a physical reason for him doing this, something they can treat instead of you all having to guess whats wrong.

just noticed this Joanne. Hope the vet can get to the bottom of why Malo is doing this. Prince too has a very dense coat and we cannot put frontline directly onto his skin either - just have to do as best we can.

As ar as we can see there is no evidence of fleas so i think the frontline does the trick even though not directly onto his skin. Have heard though that very dense coat can be uncomfrotable to the cat as grooming doesn't get right down. It could be this is why he is doing it - but we really need to get to the bottom of it and not second guess.

Today's the day Joanne, here's hoping he behaves and the vet can solve this mystery.

Not looking forward to it as Malo doesn't do vets kindly. Anyway, the appointment is at 6pm so a while yet, and quite possibly the snow will lead to a postponement - will just have to see how it develops. Seems to be calming a bit for now.

Any news Joanne?

If he's been spending more time than usual on a windowsill he'd probably been praying for more snow Laughing

Ian - his prayers were answered. The snow wasn't the real reason though - a car that refused to start was (although maybe the cold weather led to that). Anyway, Malo has a reprieve but a new appt will be on the cards if he doesn't stop pulling out chunks. To be fair, he hadn't pulled out any fur for 3 days, but then he started again last night. Did he know he had an appt with the vets? Did he purposefully stop tugging out fur for 3 days in an attempt to get the appt cancelled? Did he start up again to celebrate the fact he had got away with it? Makes me wonder sometimes if these cats are not cleverer than we think.

Perhaps make the next appointment over the phone AT WORK and not at home so he doesn't overhear you Wink These cats of ours certainly like to outmanoeuvre us at every opportunity Rolling Eyes Malo has a vets appointment 43453
