Back from vet
We had Princey at the vet this morning for his check up. Well, its 4 weeks to the day since his last check, and since we started him on his diet prescription biscuits. Would you believe............... HE HASNAE LOST AN OUNCE!!
We were gobsmacked and told the vet that we had religiously stuck to it (which we have!) and he had been good as gold with it. She said this can happen, cos the diet biscuits have hardly anything in them (calorifically), so the body is holding onto every fat reserve it has! Also, that its his metabolism changing
with the change in his diet etc.So......... she said to carry on with the diet food until its finished (prob around another 2 weeks worth or thereabouts), then to take him back in to be weighed. If he STILL hasnt lost any significant amount, then we have to put him back on his James Wellbeloved biscuits, but at a smaller amount ie, 30g morning and night like the diet ones, as opposed to the 40g morning and night he was getting before).
She was very happy with the way he was walking etc, and happy that he has his mad half hours and flies around the house, as he will be building a bit of muscle each time.
Apparently some cats with cruciate ligament ruptures never fully recover, ie the knee will never be 100% stable, but that they can get about, they will just have a bit of a limp, and perhaps an odd gait!
So, in two weeks, we will bite the bullet and allow the chunky boy of love, to go outside! YAY!
I will be like a mother seeing her kid off to school on the first day!

Re: Back from vet
ROFL, oh Chunky boy is keeping hold of his fat reserves, it's too bloody cold to be slim.
Glad the wee loon is coming along nicely, he'll be like a feel thing when he gets out again, bless him.

ROFL. Poor Princey boy being a fatty, but at least it's good news about his leg.
We'll have to start our own fat cat club for our babies.

Re: Back from vet
Great news about his leg Perhaps you should choose a VERY rainy day for him to go outdoors for the first time? The reasoning being that perhaps he won't be as tempted to charge around like a lunatic and possibly undo all the good work on his leg

Re: Back from vet
Fab to hear he's doing so well with his leg! Mybe Prince is just simply meant to be a little on the large side. As soon as we took Pok out of his carrier at the vets she sucked her lips in and looked all stern... I knew it was gonna come... "oh he's way too heavy", but she then lifted him and her lips came out again, and her frown dissappeared. Instead she looked all surprised and said "wow - he's solid!" So Pok, albeit giant with a tummy, doesn't have a weight problem. I won't mention what the vet said about BGs weight... *hides in shame*
Re: Back from vet
I'm so happy prince's leg is getting better now, it's been so much hard work for you but you have done fantastic with him.
